Oudbroekpolder Schellandpolder

This flood control area will protect the residential areas and the wider region beyond it from flooding. During storm tides, which only occur one or two times per year, the Oudbroek-Schellandpolder will safely catch and hold water from the Scheldt. The nature here will also get a boost. The monotone poplar forests will be transformed into natural marsh forests. Trees, such as the alder and the willow, trees that like to have their roots in water, grow in these marsh forests. Existing ponds and watercourses will be arranged in such a way that the wetlands nature is better able to thrive.
